The Roseau Area Community Fund was established in 1996 as the Roseau Community and Education Fund. Former District #682 Superintendent Herb Benz started the Fund with a generous gift of $7,000 to provide financial support for activities, projects or services, which enhance the cultural, education and recreation opportunities in the region.

Funds

The 2002 flood demonstrated the importance of the Roseau Community and

Education Fund and led directly to the amendment of its purpose. A broader and more inclusive purpose was given to the Fund “to provide financial support for charitable, educational and public purpose activities, projects, or services that enhance or otherwise improve the quality of life enjoyed by residents and/or visitors of the Roseau, Minnesota area.” The Fund purpose was further amended to state “The Fund will be a catalyst in stimulating projects that improve the quality of life in the community and help achieve Roseau’s vision for its future.”

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:

With an active Advisory Committee, the Roseau Area Community Fund plans to:

  • Meet the charitable needs of our friends by creating more opportunities for private charitable investment back into the community.
  • Raise a total of $500,000 in endowment donations by July, 2008 and encourage the establishment of field-of-interest, agency endowment funds, and donor-advised funds.
  • Establish a strong Education Fund program in conjunction with the school district. Establish a diverse family of Community Service funds, including the priority areas of  Leisure and Recreation, Aesthetic Development, Arts, Culture and Education, Youth Activities and Senior Enrichment.

ADVISORY COMMITTEE

A local Advisory Committee leads the Roseau Area Community Fund. The committee is a very committed and involved group of local leaders. Every member is a donor to the endowment fund; every member is a doer in the organization’s activities and presentations; and, every member is helping to open doors that will involve more members of the community in the spirit of charitable endowment building. The committee is committed to establishing a strong community foundation as a vehicle for philanthropy for the benefit of both donors and recipients. However diverse their backgrounds, the common goal of the committee is the same: plant the seeds today to bear fruit for the future. Various sub committees have been formed to share the responsibilities of the group.

The Executive Committee members are:

  • Don Miller
  • Mary Ross
