Marian Foley Education Fund

<<Back to Roseau Scholarship Funds

The Foley family has established the Marian Foley Memorial Fund in her memory. The primary purpose of the fund is for support of Marian Foley Memorial Scholarships for graduates of Roseau  High School who are pursuing post-secondary education in nursing or other direct-care health care professions through a college, university, trade school, tech school, or other technical or vocational program.

The scholarship applications are available from guidance counselor Dan Urness at Roseau High School. Two awards for $1,000 are expected to be made annually.

The secondary purpose of the fund will support Marian Foley Health Care and Education Grants, which will provide funding for programs, projects, and activities that support health care and wellness in the Roseau community and/or that encourage or support individual interest in the health care profession.

Marian Foley received her nursing education from the Sisters of St. Joseph in Fargo, North Dakota, graduating in 1951.  Her principal training took place in Fargo, Grand Forks and Butte, Montana.  Upon graduation she was employed at the Grand Forks Clinic as a pediatric nurse with Dr. Louis Silverman.  She also assisted at the St. Michaels Hospital in Grand Forks in the pediatric ward. She continued her nursing career after marriage and later, left nursing to become a mother of five children.  She was a dedicated and compassionate nurse, spending many extra hours to assure every task was completed to her satisfaction.  Marian passed away April 21, 2003 at MeritCare Hospital after by-pass surgery.

“Marian was a very caring and thorough person with her work as a nurse and as a wife and mother,” said her husband, Robert F. Foley.  “She believed that people deserved the best care that she could provide.” This permanent endowment fund will continue her legacy of caring and education.
